Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas extends contract with Jettainer: The Spanish airline Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas has renewed its long-standing partnership with ULD management specialist Jettainer for the years ahead. Under the extended agreement, Jettainer will continue to provide comprehensive ULD supply and maintenance services. In addition, the airline’s ULD fleet will now be progressively equipped with state-of-the-art IoT tracking technology, delivering real-time, end-to-end visibility across the entire ULD supply chain with unprecedented accuracy and actionable intelligence. As part of the long-term contract extension, Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas will be among the first airline customers to benefit from Jettainer’s latest IoT tracking solution currently available on the market. Beyond real-time tracking, the technology generates valuable process insights, enabling further optimization of fleet utilization and supporting performance improvements throughout each ULD’s lifecycle. The devices, provided in collaboration with Trackonomy, introduce an innovative hybrid approach to data transmission. While LoRa and BLE readers will be installed at large and mid-sized locations, cellular-enabled units also act as mobile readers, using meshing technology to create a dynamic, self-expanding network. Although BLE and LoRa have been industry standards to date, the integration of cellular connectivity and meshing technology marks a significant step forward in delivering greater transparency, efficiency, and intelligence to customers.
IATA: EU should review EU ETS: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) calls for the review of the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) to enhance European air connectivity and economic resilience by improving the competitiveness of Europe’s air transport industry. IATA calls for the review to: Ensure full implementation of CORSIA for all international flights, including flights within the European Economic Area (EEA) routes. To prevent market fragmentations, the EU should avoid regional derogations, additional eligibility hurdles, and overlapping measures that conflict with this global framework; Enable a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) book-and-claim system for the claiming of environmental attributes under the EU ETS. Allowing purchase-based SAF claiming will enhance investment certainty and affordability which are needed to maintain a level playing field for all operators; Reinvest revenue into decarbonization. Direct a greater portion of aviation’s EU ETS contributions back into the industry’s transition. Priority should be given to scaling SAF production and supporting the development of emerging zero-emission technologies; Balance climate policy for resilience which should involve pursuing ambitious climate targets while safeguarding the air transport industry’s global competitiveness. All measures must be grounded in scientific facts and harmonized with international standards to avoid disproportionate administrative burdens and excessive costs.
Star Alliance opens new Star Connection Centre: To reinforce its commitment to delivering effortlessly connected multi-airline journeys across its global network, Star Alliance today opened a new Star Connection Centre (SCC) at LAX — its ninth centre worldwide. With more than 350,000 passengers connecting between Star Alliance member airlines at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) each year, it is one of the Alliance’s most critical global transfer hubs. Designed to support passengers with tight connections between two Star Alliance member airline flights, SCC proactively identifies customers at risk of missing their onward journey due to their delayed incoming flight and expedites them to their next flight. “Every moment matters when connections are tight, and our goal is to make multi-airline journeys feel seamless,” said Ambar Franco, Vice President – Customer Experience at Star Alliance. “At Star Connection Centres, our member airlines come together as one to ensure that, regardless of which airline passengers are flying with, they are supported from an Alliance perspective. This is what Star Alliance stands for — delivering a smooth experience across our global network. Our latest Star Connection Centre at LAX will benefit our members and customers alike.”
Munich Airport and Lufthansa strengthen partnership: Munich Airport and Lufthansa are strengthening their successful joint venture with a new agreement. Key elements include the start of planning for the expansion of terminal infrastructure and provisions for continuing and developing the partnership through 2056. A major aspect in this will be the expansion of the long-haul fleet in Munich. Through this agreement, both companies are creating strategic conditions for further air traffic growth at the location. The agreement will strengthen Munich Airport’s economic performance, create additional high-quality jobs in the airport region, and contribute sustainably to value creation in Bavaria. Bavarian State Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder: “Bavaria is a hub for aviation, and Munich Airport is our gateway to the world. Since 2003, the airport and Lufthansa have maintained a globally unique and successful partnership on a global scale. Together, we plan to further expand the satellite at Terminal 2 to ultimately accommodate up to an additional ten million passengers per year. In addition, Lufthansa will expand its long-haul network in Munich with additional long-haul aircraft and even greater quality and service. This is a landmark deal and a milestone for the aviation hub. As the Bavarian state government, we strongly support aviation: We will continue to expand our hubs, further develop our expertise and capacity, and advocate for a reduction in air traffic tax. As an export nation, we need the aviation industry. Only in this way will we succeed in international competition. Thank you for the excellent cooperation and all the best for the future.”
