Liquidators of Air Vanuatu announced resumption of pilot training flights as a step toward reinstating the airline’s domestic services.Liquidators of Air Vanuatu announced resumption of pilot training flights as a critical step toward reinstating the airline’s domestic services. Air Vanuatu’s domestic services are intended to resume in the short term, following support from the Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu and the Vanuatu government. A date for commencement of domestic operations will be set once all safety and other requirements have been satisfied.

Air Vanuatu’s domestic operations represent critical infrastructure for the country’s population of approximately 300,000 across more than 60 islands. According to the liquidator, the plan to resume domestic services demonstrates the airline’s underlying business has a future.

“The resumption of domestic services is a major step forward for Air Vanuatu after entering voluntary liquidation in May, and positive news for employees and the country,” said Liquidator Morgan Kelly, Partner in Strategy & Transactions at EY. “Air Vanuatu is committed to operating safely, reliably, and consistently. Air Vanuatu has retained a full contingent of staff to be able to resume operations and is currently undertaking training flights for pilots. We thank the Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu and Vanuatu Government for its support of this critical part of the country’s infrastructure. We’d also like to acknowledge all Air Vanuatu employees for the perseverance, cooperation, and dedication to Vanuatu’s national carrier through the process to-date.”

Timing of resumption of international operations is yet to be determined.
