
Asian Aviation Editor Matt Driskill is In Conversation with Fergus Lopez, the managing director for Asia Pacific at Aircraft Propeller Services (APS). Driskill and Lopez discuss the state of the turboprop market in APAC, the company’s recent opening of its Malaysian facility and the company’s expansion plans.
A seasoned aerospace executive, Lopez brings to APS more than 30 years of experience in the OEM and MRO sectors. He started his career in 1982 as an aircraft apprentice working on a variety of airplanes and engines before transitioning to business development, operational and leadership roles. His career took him on a journey where he lived and worked in locations in America, Europe, Australia and Asia. He has global perspectives and a track record of leading and growing businesses in various regions.
Strategy, Growth and Customer Service are his rallying call with team members, customers and business partners alike. Lopez has worked for companies like Standard Aero, Parker Aerospace and GKN Aerospace. In 2018, he led the establishment, development and launch of GKN’s MRO facility in Malaysia. Lopez graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the I. H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba. He also holds a Technician Certificate from Singapore Polytechnic. He is Canadian and a resident of Singapore. Born in Malaysia of Indian ancestry, Lopez is able to communicate in a few Asian languages. His passions are flying and cycling; he holds a Private Pilot License and can often been seen lugging his bike around the world, in search of his next cycling adventure. When he is not on the move, he also enjoys golf, theatre and reading.
