Vietjet to order 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft

Vietjet has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus covering a major new order for 100 single-aisle A321neo aircraft, with the potential to add another 50 in the future. The agreement was signed during the Paris Air Show by Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business. “This new agreement marks a significant milestone in our strategic partnership with Airbus,” said Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. “These modern and efficient aircraft have been instrumental in Vietjet’s growth, helping us make air travel more accessible and affordable for millions, while strengthening our role as a connector for economic development, cultural exchange and global connectivity. This landmark agreement represents a vital step in Vietjet’s growth strategy as a multi-national aviation group.” “Our latest agreement comes just weeks after the airline placed an additional order for A330neo widebody aircraft,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry. “Together the A321neo and A330neo will be perfect partners for Vietjet to continue to spread its wings, efficiently matching capacity more closely to demand across its network. The airline will also benefit from the high levels of technical commonality that are unique to latest generation Airbus aircraft.” Operating a fleet of more than 100 Airbus aircraft, Vietjet continues to expand its global network and fleet modernisation. The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ best-selling A320neo Family, offering unparalleled range and performance. By incorporating new generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo brings a 50% noise reduction and more than 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, while maximising passenger comfort in the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky. At the end of May 2025, more than 7,000 A321neo aircraft have been ordered by over 90 customers across the globe. LOT Polish Airlines orders 40 Airbus jets (IMAGE: LOT Polish Airlines) LOT Polish Airlines and Airbus announced that LOT signed an agreement under which Poland’s national carrier will acquire, between 2027 and 2031, 40 Airbus A220 aircraft offered in two different variants: -100 and -300. Under the terms of the deal, the Polish airline will be able to exercise an option to purchase 44 more planes offered by the European manufacturer. The Airbus A220 is a modern regional jet with a capacity of 100 to 160 passengers, depending on the specific version. With a maximum range of up to 6,700 kilometres, it will be able to serve all connections within LOT Polish Airlines’ European flight network. The new generation of regional planes will also bring about significant operational and environmental benefits in the form of lower CO2 and noise emissions. Fuel efficiency (per passenger) will also be improved compared with previous aircraft generations. The order is the first that the national carrier has placed with this particular manufacturer. During the Paris Air Show, LOT Polish Airlines has also signed a contract for the supply of engines to be installed on its regional planes. The Airbus A220 fleet will be powered by state-of-the-art PW1500G engines manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. The cooperation is concerned not only with the supply of technologically advanced powerplants, but also with joint efforts aiming to optimise regional fleet operations. “While making the choice, we are thinking about the future. In the configuration ordered by LOT Polish Airlines, the Airbus A220 will be equipped with highly comfortable Recaro seats that are manufactured in Poland. The seats will offer a number of additional convenience features, such as a mobile device holder, 60W USB-C ports for all passengers, allowing to rapidly charge mobile phones or laptops. Handy cup holders will be available as well. The planes’ interiors will be aligned with the styling and colour schemes known from the airline’s business lounges and from the cabins of its modernised wide-body aircraft. Large overhead bins will accommodate a higher number of carry-on bags, thus significantly streamlining the boarding process, while the higher and wider passenger cabin, combined with larger windows, will add to the feeling of spaciousness. Even the longest flights operated on the A220 will pass in no time at all thanks to a reliable Internet connection. The first aircraft will be acquired by LOT Polish Airlines in 2027, commencing the process of consolidating the carrier’s regional fleet. Once the older generation jets have been withdrawn from use, it will be made entirely of the Airbus A220-100 and -300 planes, facilitating the network planning process and ensuring improved operational efficiency.
