Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) said it buy 77 aircraft from Boeing, Airbus and Embraer and will spend about $14.5 billion on the deal.
The airline said in a statement Tuesday (25 February) that “in anticipation of future growth in passenger demand, including strong inbound demand, ANAHD has decided to proactively introduce competitive, technologically advanced aircraft for sustainable growth over the medium to long term. This will be achieved by renewing the fleet that was suspended due to the COVID-19 and placing additional orders for new aircraft. The total number of aircraft in the Group’s fleet, including those already ordered and those to be ordered, will be approximately 320 aircraft in FY2030, with approximately 120 Boeing 787 series aircraft. As a result, the ratio of fuel-efficient aircraft will increase to 91%, contributing to environmental measures.”
For ANA-branded international routes, in anticipation of strong Asia-North America demand and the re-expansion of Narita International Airport, ANA will order 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft (with GE Aerospace engines). “We will build a foundation for sustainable growth by aggressively introducing new aircraft to international routes, which is the growth area of our business. Compared to FY2023, available seat kilometres (ASK) on international routes is expected to increase by approximately 1.5 times in FY2030,” the airline said.
For ANA-branded domestic routes, in order to adapt to future changes in the business environment, ANA will order 20, 100-seat class Embraer E190-E2 aircraft (15 confirmed orders and five options) for the first time in Japan. By introducing the latest engines and technologies, ANA-brand will achieve low fuel consumption and noise emissions, and will also reduce operating costs in pursuit of a flexible supply-demand balance on domestic routes over the medium to long term. These aircraft is scheduled to be introduced in FY2028.
In addition to the above, ANA will place an order for 14 additional Airbus A321neo aircraft and 12 Boeing 737-8 aircraft (8 confirmed orders and 4 options) to update the current fleets. Peach will update some of its current fleet with 10 Airbus A321neo aircraft and three Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which has superior fuel efficiency and long flight range, to support further growth of the ANA Group. Apart from the above, ANA has also finalised options for five Boeing 787-9 aircraft, announced on February 25, 2020, and 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, announced on January 29, 2019.
Koji Shibata, President and CEO of ANA Holdings, said: “This order will be the catalyst for improving the profitability of domestic flights and the expansion of international flights which is an area of future growth of our airline business. We will fully utilise this opportunity in order to become an industry-leading airline with sustainable growth.”

ANA’s Boeing jets will be power by GEnx-1B engines. “GE Aerospace is deeply honored by ANA’s selection of our groundbreaking GEnx engine to power their new 787 Dreamliner aircraft,” said Russell Stokes, President and CEO, Commercial Engines and Services, GE Aerospace. “ANA first ordered the GEnx engine in 2020. This deal is testament to the engine’s performance and our successful relationship.”
Since its introduction in 2011, the GEnx engine family has accumulated over 62 million flight hours. It stands as GE Aerospace’s fastest-selling, high-thrust engine to date, with more than 3,000 engines currently in service and backlog, including spare units.
ANA Holdings has also selected LEAP-1A engines to power 13 A321neo aircraft to be operated by its subsidiary, Peach Aviation. “Today we build on [our long] relationship, not only with the efficiency and reliability of CFM LEAP engines, but with confidence in the exceptional support that we’ve come to know from CFM,” said Hidekazu Yoshida, Executive Officer and Executive Vice President at ANA Holdings. “ANA has operated CFM56-powered 737 and A320 family aircraft for more than three decades, and Peach Aviation has flown LEAP-powered A320neo aircraft since 2020. Today we build on that relationship, not only with the efficiency and reliability of CFM LEAP engines, but with confidence in the exceptional support that we’ve come to know from CFM.”
Japan, ANA began operating CFM56-powered 737 and A320 family aircraft in the 1990s. The airline currently operates 39 Boeing 737-800 and four Airbus A321 powered by CFM56-7B and CFM56-5B engines, respectively. By exercising options for 10 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, ANA will grow its order book from 20 to 30 such aircraft.
