Vietjet taps P&W GTF engines for A320neos

Vietjet Air has selected RTX’s Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power an additional 44 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, reinforcing the airline’s long-term commitment to next-generation propulsion technology. The order includes 24 A321neo and 20 A321XLR aircraft, bringing Vietjet’s total commitment to 137 GTF-powered aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in July 2026. As part of the agreement, Pratt & Whitney will also provide engine maintenance support under a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement. Vietjet, one of Asia’s fastest-growing low-cost carriers, continues to expand its fleet and network across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. “Vietjet values our relationship with Pratt & Whitney and its latest generation technology,” said Nguyen Thanh Son, Managing Director of Vietjet. “The GTF engine is powering our growth with industry-leading operating economics and fuel efficiency of up to 20%. We continue to trust in the long-term, comprehensive and responsible partnership with Pratt & Whitney.” Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietjet received its first A321neo in 2018 and currently operates 42 GTF-powered A321neo aircraft. Prior to this latest selection, the airline had already committed to up to 93 aircraft of this type. “Ten years ago, Vietjet joined the Pratt & Whitney GTF family, and this selection demonstrates the airline’s continued confidence in the GTF engine,” said Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney. “With this latest order, Vietjet will further realise the benefits of the most efficient engine for single-aisle aircraft as we continue to support its network expansion.” The GTF engine delivers up to 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared with previous-generation engines. To date, more than 2,600 GTF-powered aircraft have been delivered to over 90 customers worldwide. Pratt & Whitney’s GTF Advantage engine, expected to enter service later in 2026, will offer enhanced payload and range capability, along with a more durable configuration delivering up to double the time on wing. The company continues to invest in expanding its global GTF MRO network and strengthening supply chain capacity to support growing customer demand.
