The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) announced that Qantas Airways Limited has joined AAPA with immediate effect. “We are very pleased and honoured to welcome Qantas Airways as a member of AAPA. Qantas, a leading Australian airline with a long heritage, would not only strengthen the Association’s voice in international aviation policy discussions, but also reinforce effective regional collaboration on key aviation tenets, namely safety, sustainability, and seamless air travel,” said Subhas Menon, Director General of AAPA. There are many areas airlines can share best practices and experiences to benefit the travelling public.” (PHOTO: Shutterstock) The AAPA is the trade association for scheduled international airlines based in the Asia Pacific region. The AAPA permanent secretariat is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with international representation in Brussels and Washington, D.C. Collectively, the region’s airlines represent over one-third of global passenger and air cargo traffic, and thus play a leading role in the ongoing development of global aviation. Qantas was founded in regional Queensland in 1920 and is the world’s oldest continuously operating airline. The Qantas Group has grown into a diverse global aviation business with more than 300 aircraft in its fleet. Each year it carries around 50 million passengers and, together with its codeshare and oneworld partners, Qantas offers flights to more than 1,000 destinations around the world. The Group prides itself on operating with integrity through its commitment to safety, its people and the communities it serves, and is working to minimise the impact it has on the environment, including by reducing emissions and waste generation.
