Dornier Technology expanding Clark MRO facility

Dornier Technology is significantly expanding its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capacity at Clark International Airport by adding a second hangar, with a third targeted for by the end of this year’s third quarter. The expansion comes amid surging demand for hangar slots across the region, driven by rising demand for commercial MRO and a relative scarcity of MRO facilities; airline fleets are expanding faster than maintenance capacity. Dornier Technology operates Hangar 1, a 4,705m² facility capable of accommodating one narrowbody aircraft or two turboprop aircraft simultaneously. The expansion adds two hangars to its base at Clark. Hangar 2, spanning 4,401m², can accommodate four turboprop aircraft simultaneously and is already operational. Hangar 3, a 4,705 m² hangar capable of handling two narrow-body aircraft at a time, will open by end of 2026’s third quarter. The company also has access to a fourth hangar, that is 2,250m², and is capable of accommodating two turboprop aircraft. The increase in hangars from one to three, represents a 194% increase in capacity, and if it decides to use the fourth hangar it, will be a 241% increase. A key addition with the expanded facility is full aircraft painting capability for narrowbody and ATR aircraft. Dornier Technology CEO, Nick Gitsis, says aircraft lessors repositioning aircraft between operators frequently struggle to find an MRO company capable of doing the airframe heavy maintenance check and a full repaint. With this capability, Dornier Technology is well-placed to offer a comprehensive one-stop maintenance and painting package. Gitsis says they were confident to do the large-scale expansion of the MRO business, because of the enormous demand from Asian carriers for airframe heavy maintenance. “We see opportunity particularly among low-cost carriers in Southeast Asia as well as from airlines in Northeast Asia, where labor shortages are most acute,” he adds. Dornier Technology holds certifications from civil aviation authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Myanmar’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), and the Malawi Civil Aviation Authority. The company is working to be certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia, 2-REG (Bermuda), and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), with the latter targeted for 2027.
