Air Cambodia orders up to 20 737 MAX jets

Boeing and Air Cambodia have announced the airline’s largest single-aisle aircraft order, covering up to 20 Boeing 737 MAX jets, with the agreement unveiled during the Singapore Airshow. The deal marks Air Cambodia’s first purchase of Boeing aircraft and a significant step in the carrier’s fleet modernisation strategy. The Southeast Asian airline finalised a firm order for 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft in December 2025, alongside options for an additional 10 jets. The order had previously been listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website. Air Cambodia plans to deploy the 737-8 as it expands its regional route network, with growing air travel demand strengthening connectivity across Asia. The aircraft offers a balance of capacity, range and operating efficiency suited to high-demand regional routes. “The 737-8 gives Air Cambodia the ideal combination of range, capacity and fuel efficiency to support our next phase of growth,” said Dr David Zhan, Chief Executive Officer of Air Cambodia. “This investment – Air Cambodia’s largest narrowbody purchase – will let us launch direct services to important markets across North and Southeast Asia and offer competitively priced travel for passengers, while creating local jobs and training opportunities that strengthen our communities.” Configured to carry up to 178 passengers in a two-class layout, the 737-8 has a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 kilometres). The aircraft provides improved operating economics, delivering around a 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared with earlier generation aircraft. According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, Southeast Asian airlines are expected to require nearly 5,000 new aircraft over the next 20 years, with single-aisle aircraft accounting for more than 80 per cent of projected deliveries.
