SeoulMenteri Besar Selangor (MBI) announced memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with leading aviation industry players who threw their support behind Selangor Aero Park (SAP) as it gears up to become the leading ASEAN business and general aviation hub. The exchange of MOUs that took place during the launch of the Selangor Aviation Show, were signed on behalf of SAP by Pn. Hajah Norita binti Mohd Sidek, Chief Executive Officer, of MBI with Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre, Bibus Metals Sdn Bhd, Dviation Group, Simaero Holding and SIR Ventures Sdn Bhd and Subang MRO Sdn Bhd, respectively.

As one of the 108 projects identified in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which outlines a five-year plan for the state of Selangor’s economic development beginning in 2021, SAP is poised to be an important contributor to the nation’s GDP target of RM587.5 billion by 2030 as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030), with aerospace being one of the five primary sectors of importance.

YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor in his speech at the opening ceremony said, “We recognised early on that aerospace has the potential to reshape our economic landscape, create high-value jobs and put Selangor on the international stage as a hub of innovation and excellence. It is worth reiterating that an astounding 67% of the aerospace economy in Malaysia finds its home right here in Selangor. This is not just a statistic; it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our rakyat, the vision of our government, and the support from our partners.”

According to Dato’ Seri Amirudin, SAP aligns seemingly with the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK- 12) and NIMP 2030 in harnessing the aerospace industry in order to contribute to the national development goals, with emphasis on sustainable economic growth and technological development.

SAP will encompass a wide spectrum of aviation activities such as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), aircraft teardown, aircraft retrofitting, engines and aero manufacturing, training & research centers and development labs; and will also feature office complexes, test bed facilities, bonded warehouses and state-of-the-art smart hangars with access to existing runways to ease the movement of aircrafts going in and out of the park.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin shared that targets and deliverables for SAP will be managed through the Selangor Aerospace Action Plan (SAAP) in partnership with industry leaders, educational institutions and research centers; in order to ensure growth, investments and create high- value jobs for the rakyat.

While Selangor has become a beacon for aerospace manufacturing, research, and engineering services, attracting global players and setting new standards; Dato’ Seri Amirudin stressed that in order to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and dreamers; activities and programs to empower and inspire the next generation will be required in order to sustain the industry.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin also revealed that since the concept of green aviation holds immense promise, the State government will be pioneering efforts to make Selangor a leader in this arena. “We are currently investing in sustainable technologies, promoting eco-friendly practices, and encouraging research into greener aviation solutions, to not only safeguard our environment but ensure sustainability for the generations to come”, he said.
