Vision-Box and the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia and Sinergi Teknoglobal Perkasa announced the successful implementation of over 150 biometric touchpoints at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). This innovative rollout underscores Indonesia’s commitment to modernising and securing its borders.
The program, designed to transform the travel experience, began in 2023 at Jakarta’s Airport, with 78 Automated Border Control (ABC) Seamless Gates® installed, including dedicated eGates for passengers with reduced mobility. The project has since expanded to Bali’s Airport, where 90 ABC Seamless Gates® are being installed. Since its deployment, the biometric system has allowed more than 6 million international and local travellers to scan their passports and complete biometric verification in a few seconds, streamlining the immigration process.
This partnership brings significant benefits, prioritising efficiency, security, and convenience for travellers and the Immigration Authority. Introducing these systems reduces travellers’ waiting and queuing time, minimises manual checking, and optimises infrastructure, all while ensuring a superior travel experience and fostering an interconnected data ecosystem among trusted stakeholders.
“The implementation of these eGates at Soekarno-Hatta and Bali has significantly improved the passenger processing time from the conventional border control counters, which previously took around 3 to 5 minutes per passenger, to an average of 20 to 25 seconds. This innovation makes the passenger experience more enjoyable during the immigration process,” said Andi Sjachrial, President Director of Sinergi Teknoglobal Perkasa.
“We are excited to support Indonesia’s ambitious modernisation goals and enhance passenger experiences at its key airports. Our deployments at Jakarta and Bali airports demonstrate our commitment to providing world-class biometric solutions that meet the highest standards of security and efficiency,” said Maneesh Jaikrishna, Regional Managing Director of Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa of Vision-Box, an Amadeus Company.
As Indonesia anticipates significant growth in its air travel market, projected to exceed 200 million passengers annually by 2030, the successful implementation of biometric border control solutions marks a crucial step forward. This initiative positions Vision-Box, now an Amadeus company, and Indonesia as leaders in pioneering seamless travel experiences. It lays a solid foundation for the country to manage and thrive amidst this rapid expansion efficiently. Through this collaboration, Indonesia is well-prepared to meet the demands of future travellers while ensuring secure and streamlined airport operations.
