The Women in Aviation Singapore Chapter Ltd (WAI-SG) is holding a ‘Girls In Aviation Day’ on 15 October, an event attended by girls aged 8 to 17 years old, across Singapore who are keen to know more about aviation.
“We anticipate that attendance at this year’s ‘Girls In Aviation Day’ will be more than triple as compared to last year when we had 50 attendees (that included students and volunteers) in the midst of the pandemic and COVID-related restrictions,” says WAI-Singapore Girls In Aviation Day Chairperson, Jodie Bevan.
This year’s event is being held at the Singapore Aviation Academy thanks to the generous support of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). The purpose of the event is to encourage females to ignite their passion for aviation, pursue a career in aviation and introduce them to leading aviation companies in Singapore that are committed to workplace diversity.
‘Girls In Aviation Day 2022’ will be an aviation exhibition with topical panel discussions involving top female industry leaders, fun educational activities; STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) challenges and award distribution.
This year International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) chose WAI –SG to receive an ISTAT Foundation Grant, making WAI-SG one of only 17 organisations chosen globally. The grant is given to organisations to support education and humanitarian projects.
“We would like to thank the ISTAT Foundation and corporate sponsors for their support. We have already secured several sponsors that will have booths at the exhibition, and we are encouraging more companies to sponsor our event and exhibit so they can reach out to young women who will be the future of the aviation industry,” says Moushumi Kirtania, WAI-SG director and board member.
