Asia Pacific sustainable aviation

✈️ Regional Collaboration for Green Aviation

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), together with major global stakeholders in aviation and energy, has launched the Asia Pacific Sustainable Aviation Centre (APSAC) to advance environmentally responsible air travel in the region.

🤝 Strategic Partnership & Leadership

  • Founding Partners: Airbus, Boeing, Chevron, ExxonMobil, GenZero, Neste, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
  • Governance:
    • Chairperson: Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General, CAAS
    • CEO: Mr Philip Goh
    • Advisory Council Members represent key sectors, including aviation, energy, and green financing

On 14 July 2025, the partners will formalise their collaboration via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Global Aviation and Maritime Symposium in Singapore. The event welcomes transport ministers, top aviation officials, and international leaders from ICAO and IMO.

  • Air travel demand in Asia-Pacific is expected to triple in 20 years, fueling economic opportunity
  • APSAC supports ICAO’s Long-term Aspirational Goal (LTAG): net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

🛫 APSAC’s Mission & Focus

APSAC aims to help Asia-Pacific States develop sustainable aviation policies by:

  1. Policy Research on sustainable fuels, carbon accounting, carbon markets, and green financing
  2. Cross-sector Collaboration with governments, industry, and academia
  3. Capacity Building through technical assistance and training

🎯 First-Year Priorities

APSAC will:

  • Engage regional civil aviation authorities to tailor support
  • Unite private and academic partners to co-develop policy tools
  • Launch pilot projects and joint studies
  • Host training programmes and industry conferences

🗣 Leadership Perspectives

“Asia Pacific States want both growth and sustainability—not one at the expense of the other,” said Mr Han Kok Juan, CAAS Director-General. “The Centre provides policy instruments tailored to national circumstances.”
“It is an honour to lead this new initiative,” said Mr Philip Goh, APSAC CEO. “Aviation sustainability is an urgent priority, and we aim to deliver meaningful outcomes for Asia-Pacific.”
