Qantas has announced a new codeshare partnership with Malaysia Airlines, unlocking greater connectivity and enhanced loyalty benefits with direct flights for Australian travellers heading to Malaysia. Travellers can book Qantas codeshare tickets on Malaysia Airlines flights from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, giving Qantas customers nonstop access to Malaysia’s vibrant capital.
From Kuala Lumpur, Qantas will extend its QF flight numbers on domestic flights to the popular destinations of Langkawi and Penang as well as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching on the island of Borneo. Qantas will also codeshare on Malaysia Airlines flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, restoring connectivity between the cities for Qantas customers following the closure of Jetstar Asia.
As fellow members of the oneworld alliance, Qantas and Malaysia Airlines already offer reciprocal benefits. With the new codeshare arrangement, Qantas Frequent Flyers can now earn even more Qantas Points and Status Credits when travelling on eligible Malaysia Airlines flights.
In turn, Malaysia Airlines will place its code on a selection of Qantas domestic routes such as Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and Launceston, enabling Malaysian visitors greater access to destinations across Australia. Malaysia is an important market for the Australian tourism industry, ranking as the 11th largest inbound market, with 203,000 visitors contributing over $900 million in tourism spend last year.
Cam Wallace, Qantas CEO International, said: “As one of our oneworld partners in Asia, we’re pleased to deepen our relationship with Malaysia Airlines, making it easier for Qantas customers to travel to Malaysia while enjoying frequent flyer rewards and premium service. Whether it’s a business meeting in Kuala Lumpur, hiking in Borneo, or a beach escape to Langkawi, Malaysia offers something for everyone, and this partnership makes getting there more seamless than ever. It also reflects our commitment to offering more choice and convenience through an expanding network of partner airlines.”
Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, said: “Our partnership with Qantas marks an important step forward as we strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ presence in Australia, a key market in our long-term strategy. Australia has long been a core part of our network, and our recent investments – including the deployment of the A330neo, increase in flight frequencies, and the resumption of services to Brisbane – reflect our commitment to meeting growing demand while enhancing our premium offering in this market. This partnership supports our broader strategy for sustainable growth, working alongside our partners to deliver a seamless travel experience that puts our passengers at the centre of everything we do.”
