Experienced aviation executive Amelia Evans has been appointed to the Board of LifeFlight Australia as a Non-Executive Director. As CEO at Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), she brings a wealth of experience to LifeFlight from a near 30-year career across a range of industries including aviation, telecommunications, tourism and higher education. Evans has led QAL since 2022 after joining the organisation as Chief Financial Officer in 2016.

She oversaw the development of Townsville Airport’s 2023 Master Plan, and more recently, Gold Coast Airport’s 2024 Master Plan, which will deliver a future-focused precinct with a strong emphasis on accessibility. Prior to joining QAL, she spent seven years at Qantas in a variety of finance roles, culminating in her final position as Head of Finance, where she oversaw the financial and commercial management of various Qantas businesses. Evans said she had closely observed the growth of LifeFlight’s aeromedical services and was inspired by the organisation’s dedication to serving regional communities.

“As someone who leads a business that is deeply embedded in these regional communities, including the Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach, where we have airports, I know how vitally important LifeFlight is in providing lifesaving care for people who are long distances from major hospitals,” she said. “That’s why I’m excited to join the LifeFlight board and dedicate the benefit of my experience to helping LifeFlight deliver critical care to more people.”

Evans said LifeFlight was well known for being at the cutting edge of aeromedical care. “The organisation is well regarded across the aviation sector worldwide, which is no mean feat, and I’m hoping to help build on that reputation moving forward.”

LifeFlight chairman Jim Elder welcomed Evans’ appointment and said her experience would be invaluable. “To have someone of Amelia’s calibre join the board is gratifying and testament to LifeFlight’s growing reputation in aeromedicine,” said Elder. “As we grow and attend to the needs of more patients every year, expert strategic advice, from people like Ms Evans is crucial.”
