Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PT6A-67F engines to power G-111T amphibious aircraft

FlightSafeyPratt & Whitney Canada, a business unit of Pratt & Whitney, today announced that Amphibian Aerospace Industries Pty Ltd. has selected the PT6A-67F turboprop engine to power its iconic twin-engine G-111T amphibious aircraft as part of a Supplemental type certificate (STC) upgrade.

“We are delighted to be playing a role in the modernisation of the G-111T aircraft which has such an illustrious history,” said Nicholas Kanellias, vice president, General Aviation, Pratt & Whitney Canada. “The PT6A-67F engines, each with 1,700 mechanical shaft horsepower (SHP), will provide the G-111T with superior performance, greater range and the benchmark reliability and dependability characteristics that are common to PT6A-powered aircraft.” The original G-111 aircraft was powered by piston engines.

“The G-111T is the only large transport category amphibious aircraft for passenger, cargo and utility in the marketplace,” said Chairman of Amphibian Aerospace Industries, Khoa Hoang. “Because of its ability to land and take-off from both land and water, the G-111T is ideal for use in inland rivers, ocean rescue, mountainous terrain and tropic river basins.”
