Indra announces multiple deals from Airspace World

NAV CANADA signs ATM deal with Indra: NAV CANADA, Canada’s air navigation service provider, and Indra Group have signed an agreement at Airspace World 2026 for the development and implementation of the Flight Information Management System (rFIMS) for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), the central digital platform set to form the core of Canada’s future framework for the safe integration of drones into its airspace. The project will constitute a decisive step in the evolution of air traffic management, facilitating safe co-existence of manned and unmanned aircraft. Indra Group’s solution will provide the digital services and interfaces required to connect NAV CANADA with the ecosystem of drone traffic management service providers operating within the country. The platform will allow for the sharing of critical information, the coordination of operations, and a common vision of airspace, laying the foundations for the safe and sustainable growth of drone operations in Canada. Based on technologies developed by Indra Group within the framework of the European SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking programs that have  already been deployed in trailblazing drone integration initiatives in Spain, the system will be able to monitor operations, verify compliance with flight plans, facilitate secure exchanges of information between players, and provide a high degree of situational awareness for all of the participants in the ecosystem. The technology will be deployed progressively, with its initial capabilities, including essential flight management, monitoring, and connectivity services, set to become operational in 2029, It will thereafter evolve towards more advanced functions, incorporating operational intelligence and tactical conflict management capabilities to enhance the safety and efficiency of the airspace. Indra Group to transform Geneva and Zurich sites with an advanced digital Voice over IP: Indra Group strengthens its global leadership in Air Traffic Management (ATM) by modernising the communications system for Skyguide, Switzerland’s air navigation service provider, at Geneva and Zurich sites, two of the country’s most important aviation hubs. The project includes the full design, integration and deployment of the advanced GAREX 300 communication system, specifically designed for critical environments such as Area Control Centres (ACC), Control Towers (TWR), and Approach Control (APP) in Zurich and Geneva, including the apron management operations at Zurich Airport. It will also centrally coordinate the voice communication systems (VCS) rollout across Switzerland, incorporating advanced training for controllers and technical staff, a real-time operational validation system, and 15 years of support and maintenance. In total, Indra Group will deploy 247 operational controller working positions, combining production systems, testing and training environments, along with enhanced redundancy and support capabilities. This integrated model ensures a low-risk implementation, facilitating a smoother transition and highly reliable operations and communications between air traffic controllers and pilots from day one. The contract with Skyguide will modernise Switzerland’s critical air traffic communications infrastructure through the implementation of a unified, future-ready voice communications architecture. The new system will enable Skyguide to manage increasing air traffic demand with greater safety, efficiency and resilience, while further reinforcing Indra’s leadership in air traffic management technology and its position as a reference provider of voice communication systems for air traffic environments. NATS and Indra announce digital tower JV: NATS, the UK’s leading provider of air navigation services, and Indra Group have formalised their agreement to set up a new joint venture, Iqonair, set to redefine tower management at the world’s busiest airports. This new venture will unite Indra’s leading market digital tower systems with NATS’ world-class operational expertise and the advanced digital and AI solutions of Searidge Technologies. Iqonair aims to drive innovation and improve the efficiency of air traffic management at major airports, developing fully integrated, state-of-the-art digital automation solutions for control towers. These solutions will improve the efficiency and resilience of operations at the world’s main airports, where increasing air traffic volumes demand ever higher levels of precision and coordination in air traffic control. Through highly advanced functions and technologies developed with a focus on operational improvements, Iqonair will provide controllers with the tools required to expand the capacity of these airports. The joint venture will guarantee the technological evolution of these solutions to meet the changing needs of customers and industry.
