IDEMIA Public Security announced the launch of MFACE Gen2, the next generation of its facial recognition device for traveler processing. Designed to help border agencies, port operators, and carriers deliver high levels of security, MFACE Gen2 combines live 3D multi-face tracking, AI-powered facial recognition, and integrated security capabilities in a single device. As global traveler volumes grow, organisations are under increasing pressure to improve throughput while maintaining security and traveler convenience. MFACE Gen2 addresses this challenge by automatically detecting, tracking, and capturing facial images as individuals move through the capture area, enabling real-time accurate biometric matching. “Amid rising traveler volumes, verifying travelers’ identities quickly and accurately without disrupting passenger flows remains a constant operational challenge. Today, port operators, border agencies, and transportation operators need solutions that improve operational efficiency without compromising security,” said Tim Ferris, senior vice president and global head of travel and transport at IDEMIA Public Security.” MFACE Gen2 was designed to help organisations meet those demands by delivering fast, accurate, and intuitive identity verification that reduces friction for travelers while supporting secure, seamless passenger processing.” MFACE Gen2 has been engineered for real-world traveler processing environments, combining speed, convenience, and accessibility in a single solution. Its large capture volume and non-intrusive user experience enable efficient processing for a wide range of traveler profiles, including families, individuals with reduced mobility, and travelers wearing glasses or face masks. Built to support high-throughput operations, the solution delivers reliable performance across varying operational conditions while reducing queues and wait times. Amadeus biometric solutions rolling out in the UK The United Kingdom has begun the phased rollout of a contactless border at the country’s 13 international airports as part of a project that removes the need for UK citizens and eligible third country nationals to scan their passport when entering the country. The UK relies on Amadeus’ Seamless Gates at 13 international airports to securely and conveniently verify each traveler’s identity at the border, under a long-term contract with the Home Office and UK Border Force. The new contactless system works by taking a photo of the passenger as they approach the eGate. The image is checked against verified immigration, travel and passport information and the eGate opens when the checks are successfully complete. Only if further checks are required will the passenger need to place their passport on the reader or be directed to a UK Border Force officer. EGates at UK airports will gradually switch to the new contactless technology, with every eGate set to be upgraded by early 2027. Phil Douglas, Director General of UK Border Force, said: “This is a win for travelers coming to our brilliant country. By using state-of-the-art technology, we are making journeys smoother and faster, all while fully maintaining the UK’s robust border security. Our digital transformation also builds on our work this summer to extend eGates to children aged eight and above, making life a little easier for families.” Georges Fenergi, Senior Vice President, Airports and Border Authorities, EMEA, Amadeus said: “The UK government should be applauded for this pioneering approach that demonstrates a secure, interoperable, digital identity ecosystem can increase throughput, boost capacity and improve the passenger experience – all while maintaining a secure, sovereign, immigration process.” Amadeus Seamless Gates are available at the following 13 UK airports; Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, London City, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted. Initially available to UK citizens, contactless border crossing will be expanded to cover eligible foreign nationals as part of the phased rollout.
