Cobham Aerospace Communications’ AVIATOR 200S selected for Vistara A321LRs

Cobham Aerospace Communications and Vistara, a joint venture of Tata group and Singapore Airlines, announced the selection of Cobham’s AVIATOR 200S SwiftBroadband system for four Vistara A321LR aircraft, with an option for additional installations as future requirements dictate. The system will enable essential ACARS communications between the aircraft and Air Traffic Control. Cobham’s AVIATOR 200S system is the first ARINC 781, Class 4 terminal to be selected by an OEM. Compared to previous generation/legacy satellite communication systems, 200S offers two segregated aircraft communication domains, an 80-times increase in data-transfer capacity, as well as safety services-approved ACARS and SATVOICE. Secured by VPN/IPsec, and in addition to expanded communication capabilities, the 200S system offers SWaP (Size, Weight, Power) metrics superior to all current SATCOM systems. It offers interfaces capable of supporting future 4D Trajectory-Based Operations routing systems for continental (SESAR and NextGen) and oceanic use. The versatile 200S is EASA Certified (TC), paving the way for this Light Cockpit SATCOM installation on Airbus A320 Family, A330, and A350 platforms. Vistara, India’s finest full-service carrier, currently operates four Airbus A321LR aircraft, primarily to fly international routes. Eiji Kawaishi, CEO, Cobham Aerospace Communications, said: “We are pleased that a prominent international carrier such as Vistara has placed their trust in AVIATOR S.  We have every confidence that AVIATOR will exceed performance expectations, leading to even greater market acceptance of this ground-breaking SATCOM system.” For Editorial Inquiries Contact: Editor Matt Driskill at [email protected] For Advertising Inquiries Contact: Head of Sales Kay Rolland at [email protected]
