OAG PUNCTUALITY LEAGUE 2019: QANTAS REMAINS IN TOP 3 MOST PUNCTUAL AIRLINES IN ASIA-PACIFIC, HONG KONG AIRLINES NO.1, AS AIR NEW ZEALAND DROPS OUT OF RANKINGSThe OAG Punctuality League 2019 reveals strong global performance for Asia-Pacific but highlights mixed results for Australia and New Zealand’s airports and airlines
4 January 2019 – Hong Kong Airlines once again claims the title as the most punctual airline in Asia-Pacific, and the third most punctual worldwide, according to OAG’s Punctuality League 2019, which is the most comprehensive annual ranking of on-time performance (OTP) for the world’s airlines and airports. Qantas leads Australia & New Zealand airlines for OTP with 85.65% of flights on time in 2018. This is only slightly down on the previous year when OTP was 86.18%. Virgin Australia comes in second with OTP of 78.32%, followed by Air New Zealand with 76.70%. Air New Zealand drops out of the Top 10 for the region for the first time, dropping from No.8 last year.

Meanwhile Cairns (CNS) tops the rankings for Australia and New Zealand airports again this year with 83.7% of flights categorised as on-time. Adelaide is second with 82.95% of flights on time, up from 4thplace last year. All 10 airports have seen reductions in OTP compared to last year. Average OTP across the 10 airports last year was 80.9% whilst in 2018, this fell to 78.29%. Auckland (AKL) and Melbourne (MEL) in particular have seen OTP fall by over 4 percentage points.
