MTU and EOS collaborate on 3D printing
MTU Aero Engines has signed a framework agreement with EOS for the joint strategic development of additive technology (i.e. 3D printing). EOS specialises in high-end Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions and has been cooperating with MTU Aero Engines with a view to quality assurance for metal engine components using 3D printing.
The first result of these joint endeavours is the optical tomography (OT) developed by MTU, an ideal and powerful complement to the modular EOS monitoring portfolio: in addition to several sensors that monitor the general system status, the camera-based OT technology controls the exposure process and melting characteristics of the material at all times, to ensure the optimum coating and exposure quality. This helps ensure higher quality and cuts down on costs.
