Indonesia’s Mandala airlines expects to start flying again in April, following the reactivation of its Air Operator’s Certificate by the Indonesian Director General of Air Communications.

Mandala’s AOC had been frozen since the suspension of its operations in January 2011. Earlier this year, Tiger Airways took a 33% stake in Mandala through its Roar Aviation subsidiary. The majority shareholder is Indonesia’s Saratoga Group, with a 51% stake that satisfies bilateral requirements.

The remaining 15.7% is held by the previous shareholders and creditors of Mandala.
The carrier, which is adopting the Tiger Airways low-cost business model, says: “Information regarding the number of aircraft, the initial routes and destinations for Mandala will be announced soon.”
Like other airlines in the Tiger Airways Group, the restructured airline will also operate Airbus A320 aircraft.
