https://www.cfmaeroengines.com/engines/leap/Lufthansa and EPCOR have entered into an exclusive agreement to provide availability to the German airline’s first Boeing 787-9 aircraft 787 fleet with APS5000 Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). The airline took delivery of its first Dreamliner in August 2022, with four more to follow in the coming weeks. Lufthansa ordered in total more than 30 Dreamliner’s to strengthen its wide-body fleet.

As a subsidiary of AFI KLM E&M and as centre of excellence specialised in APU maintenance, EPCOR will handle all warranty repairs on the APS5000s concerned that includes an availability solution.

For the record, Pratt & Whitney Canada’s APS5000 was designed for Boeing 787 and it is the quietest APU in its class, with the lowest emissions in the industry. EPCOR is now one of only three workshops in the world licensed to overhaul and repair this APU. Approximately 40% of the 787 APUs worldwide are supported at EPCOR’s shop at Amsterdam International Airport in Schiphol. Rob van de Graaf, Commercial Director of EPCOR states; “more and more 787 operators choose EPCOR for our APS5000 service. This motivates us even more to keep investing in the best customer experience, performance, and engineering expertise.’’

Binoj Sebastian, Senior Director of Lufthansa Airline, said: “As we introduce this new widebody aircraft to our fleet, we were looking for a proven quality APU support solution to maximize the availability of our 787s: EPCOR’s track record on this product is very impressive, and we have every confidence in their ability to deliver the high level of service we expect.”

Dominik Wiener-Silva, Managing Director of EPCOR, commented: “It is always a great honor to welcome a major airline among our customers. We hope that this first collaboration will convince Lufthansa of the excellence and relevance of our APU services, and open the door to a long-term partnership around the APUs of its young and growing 787 fleet.”
