Liebherr-Aerospace Selected to Provide New Rudder Servo Control for Airbus Single Aisle Family
June 2017 – Liebherr-Aerospace will supply state-of-the-art rudder servo control for the Airbus Single Aisle family. The contract between Airbus and Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH was signed recently.
In the coming years, each Single Aisle aircraft will be equipped with three of these actuators. During the proposal phase, Liebherr gave the maturity of the rudder actuators utmost priority. Even before the company was awarded the contract, prototypes entered testing at Liebherr’s test center for very early risk mitigation and product maturity. Being able to provide Airbus with a matured design and having the capabilities to industrialize such a high-volume program were key for securing the contract.
Winning this contract will allow Liebherr-Aerospace to stay as the Airbus supplier for rudder control on for the Single Aisle family. Besides developing and producing the new rudder servo control, Liebherr will also provide integrated logistics and customer support over the entire product life cycle.
“It is our priority to ensure the A320 high-volume program and the monthly shipset rates during the ramp-up phase. We have already made a first important contribution by having a detailed design ready and by verifying the design even before the Preliminary Design Review,” says Heiko Lütjens, Managing Director & CTO, Flight Control and Actuation Systems, Landing Gear Systems and Hydraulics, Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS.
