Japan Airlines (JAL) and CFM International have finalised an order for LEAP-1B engines to power 17 additional Boeing 737-8 aircraftJapan Airlines (JAL) and CFM International have finalised an order for LEAP-1B engines to power 17 additional Boeing 737-8 aircraft announced March 19. This follows JAL’s March 2023 order for 21 LEAP-powered 737s.JAL has been a CFM customer since 1993 and operates a fleet of more than 60 CFM-powered aircraft. The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will be used to modernise JAL’s single-aisle fleet, which serves mainly domestic routes.

“Japan Airlines is known worldwide for the technical excellence of its fleet and we are honoured that it has again chosen CFM to power its next generation of single-aisle aircraft,” said Gaël Méheust, president and CEO of CFM International. “We look forward to delivering the high asset utilisation and exceptional support that JAL has relied on from CFM for more than 30 years.”

By accelerating the introduction of state-of-the-art aircraft, JAL strives to significantly enhance the quality of service provided to customers – aided by the planes’ quieter LEAP engines. Additionally, by upgrading to more fuel-efficient aircraft, the company is committed to further reducing CO2 emissions.
