Gulfstream G280 sets record

Gulfstream Aerospace announced that its super mid-sized G280 set a speed record between Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Luton, England, completing the flight in seven hours and boosting the aircraft’s record-setting tally to 54.

The aircraft departed Gerald R. Ford International Airport near Grand Rapids at 7:43 a.m. local time and arrived at London Luton Airport at 7:43 p.m. local time, completing the 3,377-nautical-mile/6,254-kilometer journey at an average speed of Mach 0.82.

“This record demonstrates the G280’s ability to make nonstop transatlantic flights other aircraft in the class just can’t match,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. “That translates into substantial time savings for G280 operators”.

Pending approval by the US National Aeronautic Association, the city-pair record will be sent to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as a world record.

The G280 has two seating areas that can accommodate up to 10 passengers with a cabin environment features 100 percent fresh air, a 7,000-foot/2,134-meter cabin altitude and 19 large windows. It carries a US$24 million list price.
