Garuda Indonesia has placed an order with Airbus for 11 Airbus A330-300ss as it continues its expansion that will see it have a fleet of 194 aircraft by 2015. All the aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.
The airlines has chosen the extended range 235 tonne maximum take-off weight variant of the A330-300 and will operate the aircraft with a premium two class layout on services from its hubs in Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) to destinations in Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific.
The carrier, which will receive its first Boeing 777-300ERs next year, is planning to grow in a number of Asian markets including China and Australia.
The order is the third to be placed by Garuda Indonesia for the A330 since July 2010, with the carrier now having a total of 21 aircraft on firm order for future delivery.
Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO, Garuda Indonesia, said in Singapore earlier this week that the carrier is also interested in ordering either ATR72 or Bombardier Q400 turboprops for thinner regional routes.
