Etihad reaches Alitalia agreement
Etihad Airways has reached agreement with Alitalia to acquire a 49 per cent equity stake in perennial loss-making Italian flag carrier.
However, there are still obstacles to be overcome, including scrutiny by European regulators, who will be looking to see whether Etihad will have effective management control. There may also be issues over state aid.
Other difficult areas include job losses that trade unions fear will amount to 2,200 employees, or 17 per cent per cent of the workforce.
