China Airlines is looking at either the Airbus A350-1000 or Boeing 777-300ER to replace its fleet of 10 ageing 747-400s, with a deal expected to be finalised over the next two years.
Local Taiwanese media CENS also reported that the carrier is looking to reduce the cargo proportion of its business from 35% to 40%, possibly by leasing out idle aircraft.
Other aircraft types in the 71-strong fleet are also set for replacement by 2015, including A340s and 737-800s.
The carrier is also developing a “Greater China SkyTeam” with fellow alliance members China Southern, China Eastern and Xiamen Airlines.
