Cathay Pacific announced its global network will further expand this year with the launch of direct flights between Hong Kong and Rome on 5 June 2025. Operated as a three-times-weekly summer seasonal service, the Hong Kong-Rome route will be Cathay Pacific’s second direct connection between its home hub and Italy. The airline currently operates five return flights per week to Milan, increasing to daily this summer.
Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said: “Cathay Pacific’s history in Italy stretches back close to 40 years when we first launched direct flights between Hong Kong and Rome in 1986. We know our customers have been eagerly anticipating the return of this route, and we are delighted to be returning to Italy’s marvellous capital this summer. Whether they are travelling for business, leisure or the 2025 Jubilee celebrations, we look forward to welcoming customers onboard our flights to experience our world-class service.”
Cathay Pacific’s Rome service will be operated using the airline’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft, providing customers with fully flat beds in Business, spacious seats in Premium Economy and comfort in Economy cabins.
Cathay upgrades Chennai-bound flights
Cathay Pacific announced the introduction of a Premium Economy cabin on flights from Chennai to Hong Kong. The airline will operate its Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, to cater to diverse traveller preferences.
Cathay Regional Head of Customer Travel and Lifestyle Anand Yedery said: “We are excited to introduce our Premium Economy cabin to the Chennai market. This addition reflects our dedication to offering customers greater comfort and choice. Chennai is a key destination for us, and our focus is on delivering unparalleled service and travel experiences. Travellers’ needs have evolved over time. In the past, there wasn’t an option between Business and Economy classes, but with the introduction of our Premium Economy cabin, travellers can opt for extra comfort and personalised services, especially on medium- and long-haul flights. Our aim is to enhance the air travel experience for our customers.”
The airline will also be increasing its flight frequencies from Chennai to Hong Kong. From 2 January to 1 March 2025, flights on the Chennai-Hong Kong route will run four times weekly, rising to five flights per week from 2 March to 30 March 2025, to meet growing demand and enhance connectivity.
