Solace Technology helps FAA streamline data: The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is using Solace’s event streaming and management platform to collect and distribute the real-time information required to power their NextGen Weather Systems, which are comprised of Common Support Services – Weather (CSS-Wx) and NextGen Weather Processor (NWP). The NextGen Weather System’s processing platform supports the identification of traffic flow constraints and en route safety hazards, and provides translated weather information needed to predict route blockage and airspace capacity constraints up to eight hours in advance. The application of Solace technology to NextGen Weather Systems is an example of FAA’s NAS Enterprise Message Service (NEMS), an implementation of message-oriented middleware commonly called System Wide Information Management (SWIM) in the aviation space. NEMS is a NAS-wide system that provides the digital data sharing backbone for their many and varied NextGen initiatives and is based on Solace technology.
Jeju Air and Navitaire sign strategic partnership: Navitaire, an Amadeus company, has signed a strategic technology partnership with Jeju Air, South Korea’s largest low-cost carrier (LCC). Through this partnership, the airline will use Navitaire’s advanced airline platform, including its leading New Skies “e-commerce first” reservation and retailing system, GoNow day-of-departure and pricing optimisation solutions. Since 2005, Jeju Air has grown rapidly to become the Korean LCC market leader, carrying over 13 million passengers in 2019. The carrier’s mission, to share the joy of travel with everyone, has helped the airline become one of the most customer-centric carriers in South Korea. Jeju Air strives to set a new retailing standard in Northeast Asia and throughout the region, with a focus on continuous innovation to offer greater choice and value to customers. Navitaire’s New Skies reservations solution is an open, digital, “e-commerce first” platform with comprehensive retailing, analytics, and passenger personalisation tools. The solution is designed for efficiency, using a single record approach which manages both the offer and the order throughout the customer lifecycle. Real-time data for decision making and omni-channel processing are hallmarks of New Skies, which are leveraged extensively by airlines with clear industry leadership in innovation, such as Jeju Air.
GEODIS backs Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP): As one of the major logistics service providers in Asia-Pacific region, GEODIS welcomes the recent RCEP news. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) represents a fundamental step in the development of what will become the largest international trading bloc, as over the next 20 years it is envisaged that 90 percent of import tariffs between the partners will be eliminated. GEODIS, which offers a full suite of supply chain and transport management services, including customs brokerage, through its network of offices across the APAC region is greatly encouraged by the RCEP news. “So many countries across the Asia-Pacific region agreeing to the RCEP has significance of historic proportions. We look forward to supporting our customers in taking advantage of the emerging opportunities accruing from RCEP. We have full confidence in forecasting robust economic growth and supply chain evolution across the region with the conclusion of RCEP. The inter-state cooperation that it represents will also aid the post-COVID recovery of damaged economies,” said Onno Boots, GEODIS APAC regional president and CEO.
Moment connects 120 million passengers in 2020: After a critical year for the transport industry, Moment, a French provider of on-board digital solutions, announced a five-fold increase in the use of its solutions, reaching a 120 million passenger user-base. Thanks to its resilience and agility, the company was able to drastically increase the scale of its operations in 2020, inking three new contracts with airlines, while expanding into new business segments. As many aero suppliers, Moment has had to adjust to the current situation of the aviation industry, struck particularly hard by the global pandemic. By adapting its technology, Moment has contributed to develop new health standards in a cabin, since COVID-19 easily spreads by human interaction. More specifically, Moment’s platforms help reduce touch points by digitising assets and the media, while allowing passenger information to be conveyed digitally, for an end-to-end touchless experience.
Bluebox delivers wireless IFE on Airbus OSP: Bluebox Aviation Systems has delivered the first integration of wireless in-flight entertainment (W-IFE) software into the Airbus Open Software Platform (OSP). Deployed with customer Titan Airways, an independent charter airline in the UK, the system was part of a line-fit OSP installation on the carrier’s first new Airbus A321LR delivered from Airbus to Titan on 26 October 2020. OSP is Airbus’ standardised on-board hardware and software infrastructure available as both line-fit and retrofit for the Airbus A320 and A330 Family aircraft. It enables a number of on-board digital services including integration of W-IFE from a selection of vendors. Bluebox was the first W-IFE partner selected by an airline customer for the Airbus OSP programme in 2019, which kicked off the core integration work and a series of system tests to ensure Bluebox’s wireless base software suite passed Airbus’ quality standards. For line-fit installations such as Titan’s, integration of the passenger-facing IFE portal is completed after transfer of title to the aircraft customer. Airbus OSP is fully compatible with the aircraft manufacturer’s ambitious “Airbus Connected Experience”, which is pioneering the Internet of Things in the aircraft cabin and paving the way for a new personalised passenger experience and an open ecosystem approach for airlines.

Aspen Flight Academy buys ALSIM AL40 simulator: The Aspen Flight Academy in Colorado, a one-of-a-kind programme that offers every Aspen High School student the chance to experience flight and learn about careers in aviation, will receive a new ALSIM AL40 simulator. An exact replica of Diamond’s DA40 NG aircraft, this will be the first AL40 in North America. The high fidelity AL40 is a perfect match to Aspen’s fleet of new Diamond aircraft. Aspen received the first two DA40 NGs in August 2020 and plans on receiving two more a year for the next nine years. Like the aircraft itself, the AL40 boasts an impressive list of features including a Garmin G1000 NXi and GFC 700 autopilot/flight director with electric pitch trim. The AL40 includes ALSIM’s own advanced in-house VFR image generator and visual system with a 210-degree screen.
