Flight June 23Australian regional carrier Rex announced it will launch flights between Adelaide and Sydney from next month. The new route, Rex’s eighth domestic route, will begin on 29 June. The daily flights will be operated by Rex’s Boeing 737-800NGs with special launch fares starting from $99 each way now on sale. Business Class fares are also available from $399.

Adelaide is already part of Rex’s domestic and expansive regional network. Rex has been operating domestic services to the ‘City of Churches’ from Melbourne since 31 March 2021. The new Adelaide-Sydney route will also bolster Rex’s network connectivity. The new route will open up connections between regional NSW and Adelaide (via Sydney), in addition to between regional SA and Sydney (via Adelaide). New connections between Adelaide and Brisbane (via Sydney) will also be unlocked. The new Adelaide-Sydney route is made possible by the imminent arrival of two additional aircraft which will increase Rex’s domestic fleet to nine Boeing 737-800NGs.

“This new route brings us one step closer to our ambition to fly between every capital city in Australia. More new routes will be announced shortly,” Rex Deputy Chairman John Sharp said. “I would particularly like to thank Adelaide Airport for its co-operative approach, forward thinking and ongoing support without which we would not have been able to launch this new route.”

Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox, said Rex had again demonstrated its strong support for the Adelaide market, having introduced the Adelaide-Melbourne route in 2021. “This service provides South Australian passengers with more choice when flying on our second most popular route, and will start in time for the July school holiday peak,” Cox said. “I congratulate Rex on recognising the future growth opportunities on this route. Rex has been a great supporter of the Adelaide market, including regional links, for many years.”

South Australian Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison welcomes the additional flights, saying it represented the increasing growing confidence in domestic leisure and business travel. “We’re already seeing very strong performance from Adelaide Airport, and we absolutely welcome further commitment from Rex to add extra – and importantly new – flights from Adelaide to Sydney, one of the key aviation partners for South Australia. It’s another step towards a total recovery for domestic passenger traffic, and an important link to our valuable international markets.”
