Australian regional carrier Rex said its National Jet Express (NJE) unit would significantly expand its presence in Queensland after winning several new contracts. The company said it would implement new twice-weekly charter flights between Cairns-Townsville-Moranbah as well as an additional weekly Brisbane-Moranbah flight for existing client BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA); the airline will add new weekly charter flights between Brisbane and Emerald and Moranbah; and new weekly charter flights between Brisbane and Rockhampton. These services, which will commence across October and November 2023, will all be using NJE’s De Havilland Dash 8-400NG aircraft and will significantly grow NJE’s presence on the East Coast.
“As foreshadowed in Rex’s media releases of 17 May 2023 and 29 August 2023, NJE intends to be the first port of call for resource companies that seek premium, reliable air services in modern aircraft with a greatly reduced carbon footprint. These new contracts, so soon after our launch in Queensland in July this year, clearly demonstrate that we are on the right trajectory to achieve our objective,” said Chris Hine, Managing Director of NJE. “I see a crying demand across the construction, mining and resources industries and we are actively sourcing additional modern aircraft for both the Sunshine State as well as Western Australia.”
“The Rex Group is the biggest regional operator of Regular Passenger Transport services in regional and rural Queensland with 24 destinations, as well as being host to a growing network of domestic services using Boeing 737-800NG aircraft. NJE will be able to leverage this expansive network to provide creative solutions to the air transport needs of the construction, mining and resources industries located all over Queensland,” Hine added.
NJE was founded in 1994 and with the introduction of an additional De Havilland Dash 8- 400NG aircraft to support the new Queensland base and growth elsewhere across the network, NJE now operates a fleet of nine Dash 8-400NG, in addition to its current fleet of six Embraer 190 jets serving clients in the mining and resources across Australia. Additionally, NJE operates four British Aerospace 146s for night freight between Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast and three De Havilland Dash 8-100 aircraft for FIFO operations in Papua New Guinea and between PNG and Cairns. NJE has been part of the Rex Group since 1 October 2022.
