Icelandair takes delivery of first Airbus A321LR
Icelandair has officially taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR, marking a significant milestone not only for the airline but also for Geven, the Italian aircraft seating specialist. This delivery introduces Icelandair as the first customer to feature Geven New Comoda – Materia Pack for Business Class and Elemento for Economy Class, both integrated with Panasonic Astrova IFE solution for the first time.
This program is particularly notable as it represents Geven’s Elemento first implementation on a narrowbody aircraft. While debuting on the A321LR (A320 family), both seating solutions have been meticulously designed for long-haul operations and are also slated for delivery on the A330 and A350 fleets, further cementing their versatility and appeal across different aircraft types.
In Business Class, Icelandair passengers will experience the latest evolution of the New Comoda – Materia Pack, which has undergone a custom redesign to reflect the airline’s brand identity and commitment to delivering a superior passenger experience. This bespoke version includes enhanced features such as cradle functionality, a spacious central console offering ample storage, and design elements that provide increased luxury and privacy. The lightweight and ergonomic Elemento is engineered to enhance passenger comfort while maximising airline operational efficiency.
A standout feature of this cooperation is the first-ever integration with Panasonic Astrova on Geven seats. The New Comoda – Materia Pack is equipped with 16-inch Astrova monitors, while Elemento features 13.3-inch Astrova monitors. This achievement demonstrates the effective use of the lightweight, flexible Astrova OLED screens to elevate the passenger experience while meeting challenging design and certification requirements.
The cooperation with Panasonic began in July 2023, and within 12 months, the seats with integrated IFE were successfully certified in a short lead time for both Comoda – Materia Pack and Elemento.
