After a five-year build-up and development phase, Hamburg-based Cabin Digital Platform start-up AERQ will discontinue its business activities. In line with the decision, AERQ will immediately stop offering and developing of its platform-based in-flight entertainment (IFE) system AERENA.
AERQ, founded in 2019 by Lufthansa Technik and LG Electronics, has been developing a digital cabin solution for commercial airlines, known as AERENA. The latter was recently launched for operational demonstration on an Airbus A320 and represents one of the most advanced products of its kind on the market.
Although the AERENA product has so far met all expectations in terms of features, quality, and customer satisfaction in ongoing flight operations, AERQ was facing significant obstacles to entering a very sensitive market for IFE systems. For this reason, the shareholders have mutually agreed to conclude AERQ’s journey here and part ways. AERQ’s operations will, as a result, cease with immediate effect.
This decision affects around 180 employees at AERQ’s Hamburg headquarters, who have already been informed. The orderly closure will be concluded as part of a wind-down procedure, which is currently being prepared.
AERQ would like to thank its employees, suppliers, customers and partners for their trustful cooperation over the past five years.
