Promising to offer a ‘one-stop solution’ for aviation companies to transform climate objectives into impactful action, the new partnership will allow both companies to offer a diverse and high integrity portfolio of carbon credits through industry leading technology, such as SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), for both compliance carbon targets of aviation businesses, and voluntary credits for passengers, employees and corporates. The credits that will be available include those that invest in nature and community-based solutions, CORSIA eligible carbon offsets, SAF certificates and Energy Attribute Certificates, including I-RECs. For CarbonClick’s customers, this means they can support the growth of the sustainable aviation fuel market through the expanded credit offering, and also access both voluntary and compliance requirements for the first time. Via state-of-the art technology, customers will have the opportunity to incorporate carbon offsetting into more touchpoints than ever before, including passenger and employee offsetting, operational emissions and corporate travel.

ICAO HQICAO and IRENA join forces on decarbonisation projects: In a crucial step towards achieving the aviation sector’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have signed a landmark agreement to boost financing opportunities for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and other cleaner aviation energy projects. The Memorandum of Cooperation signed by ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera at the G20 Energy Ministerial meeting in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, will allow the exploration of pathways to operationalize the ICAO Finvest Hub by facilitating the identification of financial resources for scaling up SAF, Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF), and other cleaner energy solutions. The ICAO LTAG report estimates that approximately $3.2 trillion in investments will be needed for cleaner aviation fuel production alone. While ICAO’s Assistance, Capacity-building and Training for SAF (ACT-SAF) programme already provides implementation support such as initial feasibility and economic studies, the Finvest Hub is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating the matchmaking between the financing needs of project developers and the financing priorities of States, multilateral development banks and private financers.

InmarsatViasat uncaps in-flight connection speeds: Viasat unveiled a variety of ground-breaking enhancements to its satellite network and service model that will raise the bar for business aviation in-flight connectivity. Viasat’s Jet ConneX customers will be the first to benefit from major performance improvements on selected plans, with the introduction of features such as uncapped speeds, expanded capacity and increased network prioritisation. Hundreds of existing customers are already trialling the enhancement program, titled JetXP, which has been developed following extensive consultation with customers, partners and research agencies, in addition to detailed analysis of usage trends over the past year. The research indicated that expectations around business aviation connectivity have evolved considerably. Traditional speed-based plans are now outdated, especially those that advertise a top-speed without details around when, where and how frequently it will be achieved. Instead, the business aviation industry has broadened its focus to the overall experience. This sentiment was further reinforced by the results of Viasat’s 2024 business aviation in-flight connectivity survey, which found that reliability, coverage, consistency, value for money and overall experience (including white-glove customer service and 24/7 global support) were deemed more important than fast speeds alone.

downloadSITA expand global tech capabilities: SITA has announced the opening of a new technology hub in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, aimed at advancing the future of air travel through cutting-edge innovation. This new hub strengthens SITA’s global network of technology centres and is set to play a critical role in addressing the most pressing challenges facing the aviation industry today—enhancing operational efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and delivering seamless passenger experiences. The Cluj-Napoca hub joins a network of SITA technology hubs in London (United Kingdom), Letterkenny (Ireland), and New Delhi (India), and will focus on developing solutions that transform passenger processing and travel technologies. The hub is instrumental in the creation of next-generation platforms like SITA Flex, which lets travellers check in and board using their phones, reducing wait times by up to 40% globally. Meanwhile, SITA WorldTracer cuts lost baggage incidents by 77% while also lowering CO₂ emissions with its cloud-based system. Airports such as Cluj as well as airlines are investing heavily in technology—airports alone are spending $10.8 billion and airlines $34.5 billion in IT (SITA Air Transport IT Insights 2023)—underscoring the urgent need for innovation. SITA’s Cluj hub is at the forefront of this effort, contributing to the industry’s shift toward cloud-based, mobile, and self-service solutions that improve operational efficiency and sustainability.

FlightSafety Gulfstream G650 Simulator May 2020HDI becomes a BARS Member Organisation: Global insurance company HDI has partnered with the Flight Safety Foundation’s Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) Program to further increase the operational safety of its aviation clients. As a BARS Member Organisation (BMO) HDI will have access to comprehensive deidentified audit and accident analysis data which will facilitate its risk management strategies. Additionally, HDI’s safety initiatives for brokers and customers will be strengthened by its membership in Flight Safety Foundation, which is included in becoming part of the BARS Program. HDI’s experts for the insurance of contracted aviation operations recognised that BARS operators better manage their risks and consequently make fewer claims. They also found that both the insurance company and the operators would gain tangible benefits from having third party assessments of the operators against the BAR Standard. HDI underwriting teams across the globe will now gain greater insight into the safety performance of operators through the globally recognised safety standard for contracted aviation that the BARS Program provides. The underwriters will receive training on how the program works and how to utilise it for safety initiatives.
