Asian Aviation Magazine Editor Matt Driskill is In Conversation with Miguel Leitmann, the chief executive officer of Vision-Box, a multi-national biometric technology company he co-founded in 2003. Throughout his career, Leitmann has been a key player in building and broadening biometric identification markets and developing biometric security products to meet the passenger security and identity management industry’s toughest challenges.

As Vision-Box CEO, Leitmann has been instrumental in bringing innovative and groundbreaking solutions to the aviation market, including Europe’s first facial biometric identification automatic border clearance system in 2006 that became an instant industry standard, and is now present in over 80 major International Airports. In 2014, Vision-Box introduced Happy Flow, the multiple award-winning passenger clearance system providing passengers with a complete self-service, end-to-end, airport journey.

Under his watch, Vision-Box quickly became the worldwide leader in passenger experience and border control solutions by being at the forefront of biometric systems and identification management solutions design. Miguel was heavily influenced early in his career as a top executive serving in functions where his multicultural background and fluency in seven languages helped market leading-edge technology through effective sales initiatives.

When first pursuing a career in the aerospace industry, Leitmann was part of the team that developed, engineered, and successfully launched the first Portuguese satellite in 1993. In 1996, he served as president and CEO of US- based Logicad3d, a German aerospace R&D spinoff. Using his extensive experience and guidance, Vison-Box expanded its international presence with regional offices in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Netherlands, Qatar, Singapore, and Hong Kong, with its headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
