Asian Aviation Magazine Editor Matt Driskill is In Conversation with Jared Lee, the vice president for sales of Qatar Airways for Southeast Asia, the Southwest Pacific and the Indian subcontinent. The two discuss the recent awarding of the World’s Best Airline award by Skytrax, COVID-19 and going green.

With more than 25 years of experience in the aviation industry, he is responsible for Qatar Airways’ overall commercial leadership, strategy and business operations in eight countries within Southeast Asia and seven countries within South Asia. Lee began his career in the airline industry in 1992. His aviation career began with Singapore Airlines. Over a period of 13 years, he rapidly moved up the ranks and assumed several senior management roles within the airline, across both commercial and cargo operations. Lee joined Qatar Airways in 2006 and was instrumental in the commercial success of Qatar Airways’ operation in the Pacific (Japan, Korea, Philippines and Australasia), Greater China and Africa market.

He joined the cruise sector as Vice President, Product Management & Guest Services with the Costa Crociere S.p.A. in 2016. Lee holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics & Statistics with Honours, from the National University of Singapore. He is currently pursuing an Executive Masters in Leadership, Strategy & Innovation. Qatar Airways is led by Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker who has taken Qatar Airways from a small regional carrier into one of the world’s leading global airlines in the span of just 20 years. Today, Qatar Airways flies one of the youngest, most sustainable and state-of-the-art fleets in the skies serving over 130 destinations across six continents.

Matthew Driskill
Matt Driskill is the Editor of Asian Aviation. He has been an Asia-based journalist and content producer since 1990 for outlets including Reuters and the International Herald Tribune/New York Times and is a former president of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Hong Kong. He appears on international broadcast outlets like Al Jazeera, CNA and the BBC and has taught journalism at Hong Kong University and American University of Paris. In 2022 Driskill received the "Outstanding Achievement Award" from the Aerospace Media Awards Asia organisation for his editorials and in 2024 received a "Special Recognition for Editorial Perspectives" award from the same organisation. Driskill has received awards from the Associated Press for Investigative Reporting and Business Writing and in 1989 was named the John J.
