Asian Aviation Editor Matt Driskill is In Conversation with Aircraft Finance Lease CEO Deepak Sharma about the state of the global aviation industry in the age of COVID-19 and its effects on commercial aviation and lessors in particular.
AFL was established in 2019 and provides diverse products and value-added services to the worldwide aviation/ aerospace industries. AFL is an experienced corporate partner for leading aircraft and engine lessors and Sharma is currently working on a range of specialist projects with Air Finance Germany (a primary corporate partner) in the role of Chief Commercial Officer. Sharma has proven track record of over two decades within the aviation industry. He has repeatedly produced positive revenue and EBITDA growth in challenging markets and has over 10 years of executive level management and leadership experience. This is combined with significant technical, commercial, operational, contracts, asset management, airline, MRO, supplier and supply chain experience.
Prior to AFL, Sharma joined AAR in 2015 as President of Integrated Solutions. AAR is a leading provider of diverse products and services to the worldwide aviation/aerospace and government/defence industries. Before this he held the position of Chief Technical Officer at AJW Group, which he joined in 2008. Prior to that Sharma was Engineering Director at UK International Airlines, a scheduled carrier operating out of England to the Middle East and Asia. Here, he was responsible for setting up the operation of airline and its engineering department and was presented with certificate of recognition for outstanding performance on assigned duty.
Serving in a wide range of strategy, sales, marketing, operations, engineering and programme management leadership assignments, Sharma has more than 20 years of aerospace technical and business experience. Before joining UKIA in 2005, he held various operations and engineering positions at British Aerospace & Brymon Airways Engineering – a subsidiary of British Airways. Sharma holds a Master of Science in Aircraft Systems Engineering from the UWE, England and EASA Licences in multiple categories. He also holds various other qualifications in the field of Aviation, Contract Law and Business Administration.
