747-8I ENTERS COMMERCIAL SERVICE

The first commercial service for the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental was flown by Lufthansa on the first day of June, with a flight from Frankfurt to Washington D.C.’s Dulles International Airport.

“The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental is an exceptional aircraft,” said Christoph Franz, Chairman and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. “With its addition to our fleet, Lufthansa has created a product that is not only in line with our company’s commitment to innovation, technology and efficiency, but that also offers qualities and features that are sure to maximize our passengers’ in-flight experience.”

Korean air has five 747-8 Intercontinentals on order, while its cargo division has ordered seven freighter variants. ANA (14) and Cathay Pacific (10) have both ordered freighter versions.
